Leaving Banana Bay for Jekyll Island

All good things come to an end. We have enjoyed being at Banana Bay this spring but duty calls and we must return to Jekyll island for repairs to my sore back. A few trips to a spine doctor in Key West confirm that my problem is back. I consult with another dr. and we make plans to be in Georgia before end of June.
We would love to stay at BB, Capt Larry the dockmaster is very good and helpful, but can't promise the slip as there is a huge waiting list. We will have to see.

What we enjoyed while at Banana Bay; The local happy hours at the various eateries. Sparky's was epescially good but a cab ride away.
$5.00 anywhere on the island cab fares.
Local Publix, CVS, Walgreens a bike ride away, of course Home Depot is across the street.
The resort has a huge pool with tiki bar and nice hot tub. Free ice at the hotel
Nice but old bathrooms that I never saw dirty.
Walking the trails thru the gardens with all the tropical plants. The little Keys beach was right there in our docks.
Pump outs at the slip, nice! Towels at the dock office free to use at the pool. Walk to the next door bank or down the street to the post office. Service at Budget rent a car@ the airport.
The nice public beaches. Fishing

What we don't like about the Island: Too many people on the roads are in a hurry and don't look for bikes. I feel this is a everywhere problem. Alot of the tourist think that someone should clean up after them and leave trash everywhere. People that don't clean up after or control their dogs. The marina is being sold and we don't know the plans of the new owners. Lots of construction planned if rumors are true. We can't go back if it get more expensive.

Lobsters abound in off season

Suzsea loves watching the fish in clear water
We had an unfortunate incident happen. May the 12th was windy with up to 25 mph gusts. We had gone for a walk with Suzsea when our dock neighbors came and told us our boat had been hit.
Damage to aft cabin window
A new boat owner that had never docked his new 1986 trawler came in and the assistant dock master thought he would put him in a slip next to us. Well this dude could not find the brakes and could not control his boat. Fl Water Police cited him for causing the damage.
Inside our bathroom
Hindsight is 20/20 but they should have tied up in the transient dock which is a straight shot in with no turns.
Turns out the only good thing is no one is hurt. If an accident occurs in a marina the Coast Guard won't check it. The FWC will and they were very good and professional. The dude's insurance will not pay me until he pays the deductible which I had never heard of. So, After getting an estimate from Marathon Boatyard for big bucks to repair. I still have no money for my loss.
